Understanding the Consumer Perspective on Data Privacy

So think about this - we spend on average 7 hours online each day, browsing the internet, making purchases online, or engaging with others on social media. The advertising you see currently is what keeps the internet open and free.

However, you might have noticed more of the online destinations you go to are asking you to login or share more information about yourself.

Welcome to the world of data privacy, also called data protection. Governments around the world are now putting legislation in place to protect your privacy online, and determine what details you need to enter to continue to get open and free access to the internet.

As the industry association for the digital advertising sector, we want to help our members to better understand what you, the consumer, do and do not know about data protection.

This information will guide us on how to help consumers so you know exactly what information is being collected from you online, how this information is used, and how you can control this process.

This survey is the start. Please take a few minutes to consider the survey questions and answer as accurately as possible. Your responses will collectively be used to ensure that consumers (you) are educated where there are gaps in knowledge about this complex topic, and possibly in guiding policy submissions to governments in our region.
